Internal Audit Services in Coimbatore for Manufacturers

Coimbatore companies usually call for internal audit when turnover reaches ₹200 crore and Section 138 applies, when the external auditor flags control gaps, or when stock stops agreeing with the books. Astral Business Consulting LLP, a management consulting and audit firm headquartered in the city, provides internal audit services from setting up the function to plant-level reviews of purchases, stock, yield and costing, with findings the Board can track.

Our 5-Step Internal Audit Process

Appointment, scope and charter

The Board appoints the internal auditor under Section 138, and the independence position under Section 144 is confirmed in writing. Under rule 13(2), the audit committee or Board then formulates the scope, periodicity and methodology, which can be drafted for approval as an internal audit charter.

Plant walk-through and risk mapping

We visit each plant, from stores and the melting or machining shop to dispatch, and trace how material and documents move. Process owners are named, the ERP user list is collected and the external auditor's latest observations are read before any test is designed.

Risk-ranked annual plan

Each cycle is ranked by value at risk and the strength of its controls, and the overall plan is approved before the financial year begins. Inventory, purchases and job work usually rank highest in Coimbatore engineering and textile units, so they are reviewed more often while lower-risk cycles rotate.

Testing on full ERP data

Purchase orders, goods received notes, invoices, issue slips and production entries are extracted for the period and tested across the full population where the data allows. Exceptions such as rate overrides, duplicate vendors or consumption above the bill of materials are then checked on the plant floor.

Board reporting and follow-up

Observations go to management in draft first, with a response, an owner and a target date against each point. The final report goes to the audit committee or Board, and points from earlier reviews are re-tested and reported until they close.

Choose a delivery model first

In-House, Co-Sourced or Outsourced Internal Audit

A Coimbatore company that has crossed ₹200 crore has three ways to run internal audit. An in-house team gives daily presence and deep knowledge of the business, and suits a group that can retain auditors and keep them independent of line management. A co-sourced model keeps a qualified head inside the company and buys specialist fieldwork from outside. An outsourced firm of internal auditors delivers the whole function: plan, fieldwork, ERP testing and Board reporting. Astral Business Consulting works as an outsourced firm of internal auditors and can discuss a co-sourced arrangement. Decide by who will act as chief internal auditor and how much of the function you want to own.

Why Choose Astral Business Consulting for Internal Audit in Coimbatore?

Close to the plants

Headquartered in Coimbatore, the team is close to plants across the Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode belt, so follow-up visits on open findings, and unannounced counts where agreed, are easier to arrange.

Built for the Section 138 mandate

The function is set up to meet rule 13: a Board-approved scope and methodology, a documented annual plan, and reports that reach the audit committee or Board rather than stopping with the finance team.

Engineers alongside accountants

Engineers and Cost Accountants on the team work alongside Chartered Accountants, so yield, rejection, scrap and machine downtime can be tested by people who understand the process, not only the voucher.

Process-based, on COSO

Each engagement walks through indent-to-pay, order-to-cash and inventory under the five COSO components, starting from 1,500+ process risks and controls held in the firm's in-house library.

Questions About Internal Audit in Coimbatore

Which firms do internal audit for manufacturing companies in Coimbatore?

Astral Business Consulting LLP, a Coimbatore-based management consulting and audit firm, does internal audit for manufacturers across Western Tamil Nadu through its Integrated Audit division, drawing on an in-house library of more than 4,000 documented risks and controls. Other options are national networks with multi-state reach and mid-size multi-city firms. They differ in plant coverage, partner time on the floor and knowledge of industries such as foundries, pumps and textiles.

Our company crossed ₹200 crore turnover. Who can set up internal audit for us?

Astral Business Consulting LLP, a Coimbatore-based management consulting and audit firm, sets up internal audit for private companies in Coimbatore and across Tamil Nadu through its Integrated Audit division. Under Section 138 of the Companies Act, 2013, the Board can also choose an in-house team or a co-sourced model. Section 144 excludes the statutory auditor and the auditor of a holding or subsidiary company.

When does internal audit become mandatory for a private company?

Rule 13 of the Companies (Accounts) Rules, 2014 makes the appointment mandatory for a private company whose turnover in the preceding financial year was ₹200 crore or more, or whose outstanding loans or borrowings from banks or public financial institutions exceeded ₹100 crore at any point in that year. Listed and unlisted public companies follow separate criteria in the same rule.

Can a private limited company below ₹200 crore engage an internal audit firm?

Yes. Rule 13 makes the appointment mandatory only at ₹200 crore turnover or more, or borrowings above ₹100 crore, but nothing prevents a smaller private limited company in Coimbatore from engaging a firm voluntarily. Many do so when the statutory auditor raises control points, stock stops matching the books or a lender asks for stronger controls.

Does Section 144 stop our statutory auditor from doing internal audit?

No. Section 144 lists internal audit among the services a statutory auditor cannot provide, directly or indirectly, to the company, its holding company or its subsidiary. The indirect limb reaches the auditor's partners, relatives and associate entities, and any entity using the auditor's name or brand, so obtain a written confirmation of independence when you shortlist.

What should a manufacturer check before appointing an internal audit firm?

Check six things: industry experience, the team on site, the framework the audit follows, how the ERP is tested, the reporting line, and which plants, warehouses and job-work sites are covered. Ask for two or three anonymised observations from similar plants. Generic findings on petty cash suggest a firm that does not yet know your process.

What does the first year of an internal audit function involve?

The first year builds a function, not a single report. The Board appoints the auditor, the audit committee or Board agrees scope and methodology, processes and risks are mapped, and an overall plan is approved. The ICAI Standards on Internal Audit cover managing the function, planning and reporting, and findings are then followed up at each review.

How often should internal audit findings go to the Board?

Rule 13(2) leaves the timing to the audit committee or the Board, so no fixed frequency applies. A quarterly cycle aligned with Board meetings works for most companies in their first year. Urgent matters, such as a suspected fraud or a stock shortfall at a plant, should be escalated at once rather than held for the next meeting.

Coimbatore and the Western Tamil Nadu Belt

Astral Business Consulting is headquartered in Coimbatore, and its auditors cover plants in the city and its industrial estates and across the wider belt in Tiruppur, Erode and Salem. Companies with plants or branches elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, such as Hosur, Madurai or Tiruchirappalli, or in other states, can be covered under the same annual audit plan.
